Fashion

Happy Wednesday! I’m wearing one of my favorite sweaters. It’s so versatile. I can wear it by itself, with a collared shirt layered under it, or like this with with a lace undershirt. Having a sweater like this is in your closet is key! Hope everyone is having a great week. 🙂

Tuesday February 10hth, 2015: Full Of Joy

Devotional

Happy Tuesday, friends! I wanted to share a short post today. I’m sharing one of my favorite verses because its something I can turn to almost everyday!

“Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice!  Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon. Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4: 4-7 NLT

I love this verse because it’s so comforting! Be joyful, considerate, stop worrying, pray more, thank God, you’ll get some peace, and He’s watching out for you. Wow!

Simply thank God for today. Thank Him that you woke up this morning. Thank Him for your breakfast or car or bed (I’m really thankful for that!). Now stop worrying! Give it to God. Tell Him what you’re worried about and you’ll experience His peace, which is far more than ANYTHING we can understand. Have a great Tuesday! 🙂

Always,

Hannah

Friday February 6th, 2015: Loving Pinterest

Favorite Fridays

Happy Friday! It’s been a while since I’ve posted a Favorite Friday. I’m sharing something I’ve been a little obsessed with recently, Pinterest! It’s where I get a majority of my fashion, food, decor, and party inspiration.

pinterest

One thing that is really easy to do on Pinterest, is get overwhelmed. I’ve been there before! So. Many. Pins. So I’m sharing some tips on how to use Pinterest for it’s maximum potential!

1. Stay Organized!

I try to keep my boards as organized as possible! This is so important because all those great pins are going to get lost in a board with thousands of pins varying on topics. When I first started using Pinterest I had three boards that I pinned everything to. Over the years I’ve created new boards for more specific purposes (I have 33 now…)

2. Pin What You Truly Might Do, Make, Buy, Etc.

I’m all about dreaming but if all you pin is wedding dresses, mansions, and recipes you’ll never try, you aren’t using Pinterest for all it’s capabilities! Dreaming is awesome but also be realistic. Why is this important? Example: Say you want to plan out your outfit for the day so you head to your Pinterest for some ideas but all you have is red carpet dresses. Sometimes you have to have a mix of both! 🙂

3. Check Out Random Tabs

I’ve learned to check out the “Architecture,” “History,” “Technology,” and “Art” every once in a while to see fresh ideas and pins. I love to see new ideas and get inspiration for fashion and home decor!

4. Have Fun

Pinterest is meant to be fun! Don’t take yourself too seriously. Breathe when you get overwhelmed, and have some fun!

I hope this post has inspired you to use Pinterest more often and have some fun. Follow me on Pinterest at, thatotherhan 🙂

Wednesday February 4th, 2015: Sometimes Life, and Most Times I, Feel Just Like A Sailboat.

Devotions

Happy Wednesday! I hope everyone is having a good week so far. If you read my blog often you’ll know that I like to write posts inspired by songs and today is one of those posts. I wanted to talk about something that I struggle with constantly. And honestly if you’re a human being, you do to. Sometimes I feel like I’m just walking around aimlessly with no end in sight. No matter how hard I try there seems to be no direction. Ben Rector’s song Sailboat captures this feeling perfectly.

I feel just like a sailboat
I don’t know where I’m headed
But you can’t make the wind blow
From a sailboat

I have seen the sun
Felt the rain on my skin
I’ve been lost and found
But mostly I’ve been waiting

Oh I’m out in the waves
I’m hoping and praying
Please let this wind blow me home
Night after night there’s an empty horizon
And my God do I feel so alone
Sometimes life, most times I, feel just like a sailboat

I’m pretty sure I’m heard
At least I know I’m speaking
But I feel like a fool
Cause I can’t hear you listening

But I’m not giving up
Oh I will move on forward
I’m gonna raise my sail
God knows what I’m headed towards

The only change I see
Lost or found, let’s see
The only difference is believing I’ll make it in

Sometimes I just feel like a sailboat. I don’t know where I’m exactly headed. I try to figure it out in my own human strength but I can’t figure everything out perfectly (hello I’m not perfect so how could I orchestrate something to be perfect… that’s for another post!). I’m out in the waves of life hoping to be saved, feeling alone. It’s not because I’m a depressed person. It’s not always because of any particular reason. It’s sometimes just life.

“But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he shouted. Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him. “You have so little faith,” Jesus said. “Why did you doubt me?” When they climbed back into the boat, the wind stopped.” Matthew 11:30-32 NLT

Do you act like Peter when you see the waves? Do you start to sink? Well the good news is, Jesus reaches out to grab you. You have to have faith though. If you can’t trust God in the storm you might just sink!

“Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name. Because of his great power and incomparable strength, not a single one is missing. O Jacob, how can you say the Lord does not see your troubles? O Israel, how can you say God ignores your rights? Have you never heard? Have you never understood? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of all the earth. He never grows weak or weary. No one can measure the depths of his understanding.” Isaiah 40:21-26 NLT

He may seem far off in the distance laughing at you while you suffer, but He is right by your side. He knows your name. He knows your situation. He hasn’t lost you like a mom loses her child in Walmart (y’all know what I’m talking about.) He sees your troubles, hears your cries and it not scared by them. He understands you. He has not forgotten about you.

“For this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I myself will search and find my sheep. I will be like a shepherd looking for his scattered flock. I will find my sheep and rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on that dark and cloudy day.” Ezekiel 34:11-12 NLT

If you feel like me sometimes, aimlessly walking around with no end in sight, don’t worry! There is an end in sight, it’s called Heaven! (can I get an Amen to that!) Don’t feel like a sailboat without hope. You’ve got the greatest hope and His name is Jesus!

Always,

Hannah

Tuesday September 23rd, 2014: It Is Not Enough To Be Busy

Devotions

“It is not enough to be busy. So are the ants. The question is: What are we busy about?” –Henry David Thoreau

I tweeted this quote a last week and I just can’t stop thinking about it. It is not enough to be busy. We must ask ourselves what we are busy about. Are we busy with sports or social media or our boyfriend or school? Has God taken the sideline in your busy schedule?

“Whatever you eat or drink or whatever you do, you must do it all for the glory of God.” 1 Corinthians 10:31 NLT

This verse gets me every time… WHATEVER you do, do it for the glory of God. So this includes time management. Sometimes I lay in bed at night thinking about all the opportunities I missed because I was “too busy” to reach people. I mean if you are a Christian every moment of your day should be spent intentional, right? Did you even have time to think about God today?

I am by no means saying I’ve got this all down either. I don’t. I just feel convicted personally because I am so busy but I don’t know where my time goes! How intentional am I being with my time? So today think about how you can be intentional with your time.

Tuesday August 5, 2014 Press Pause

Devotional

Each Tuesday and Thursday I’ll be sharing a short devotional. Each devotional will look a little different. Some days it may be a short paragraph and some days it may be longer. Some days I may make sense while some days I may seem absolutely crazy (give me some grace, please)… I pray that you won’t stop here. My hope is that you will take it a step further. My goal is to help you grow closer to the Lord and I pray that your relationship with Him will grow stronger.

It’s a quiet morning. I’ve put everything on pause for a few days. Stepping away from the city to just sit… Have no place to be at a certain time. Do absolutely nothing but relax. These are the days my soul needs… Yes needs.

“Let ALL that I am WAIT quietly before God, for my hope is in Him.” (Psalm 62:5 NLT, emphasis added)

I live in the city so I’m used to everything being fast paced. I’m used to driving five over the speed limit and still being passed. I’m used to doing something every day or else I get “bored.” It’s like I have to be doing something or else I’ll go crazy. What happened to just sitting? Sitting and listening to the Lord? I think that I feel like I don’t hear from the Lord because I’m too busy to listen… Ouch.

I could come up with all kinds of excuses on why I don’t read my Bible every day or pray but I think it could all be summed up into one reason: I’m too busy for God. Yeah I said it. I have a social life, church stuff, blog stuff, school stuff (and school hasn’t even started yet), and family to spend time with. So you’re telling me that spending time listening to God is supposed to fit in there?

After months of feeling like I could never get my head above water it finally clicked. The reason I was such a mess was because I wasn’t spending time with the Lord… When your relationship with God isn’t your first priority your life WILL be a mess. I’m not trying to sound like I have it all together, because I don’t, but unless you are continually putting time into your relationship with God it’s not going to work. I’m sharing this with you because this is something I struggle with. I struggle with putting God into my schedule instead of planning my schedule around God.

So today there’s no schedule. Nothing but spending time in His presence. I’m surrounded by hundreds of acres of nothing but land. No distractions. Just me and Him.

Find your quiet place today and make an effort to put your relationship with Him first. I’m not talking putting God’s first in your Instagram bio, but actually putting Him first. Deciding that reading His word is more important than checking Instagram 50+ times a day.

“Be still and know that I am God: I will be exalted among nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” (Psalm 46:10 NIV)
