Thursday November 6th, 2014: Together We’re Better

Devotions

better together

Happy Thursday! On Tuesday I shared part one to this topic. Check that out here! Over the past few weeks I’ve been spending a lot of time investing in relationships. I’ve been intentional about spending time with my friends. I’ve been intentional about spending time with my parents. I’ve been intentional about spending time with God. Why? Because relationships are CRUCIAL!! They are so important to life. In fact they are vital!

“And the Lord said ‘It is not good for man to be alone. I will make a companion who will help him.” Genesis 2:18 NLT

This isn’t just talking about marriage. God clearly states that it’s not good for man to be alone and that we need companions. Why?

“Two people can accomplish more than twice as one; they get a better return for their labor.” Genesis 4:9 NLT

We can accomplish more together!

“Then make me truly happy by agreeing with each other, loving one another, and working together with one heart and purpose.” Philippians 2:4 NLT

We make God happy when we agree with each other, love each other, AND work together! God loves to see us in relationship with each other.

So are you going to be intentional with your relationships today? Are you going to agree with each other, love each other, and work together? I challenge you to call, text, or message someone you haven’t talked to in the past few weeks or months. Try to restore that relationship or just simply offer a sweet word of encouragement. Relationships are important to life and you NEED them! Remember that. 🙂

Tuesday November 4th, 2014: Why We Need Each Other

Devotional

Over the past few weeks my church has been in this series called “Better Together.” I’ve really enjoyed it and I really noticed how applicable it is to my life! The whole idea is that we are better together… Each week has touched on a few different reasons why we’re Better Together. Robert Madu came a few weeks ago and preached fire! The idea of the message is that in order for us to have a team, is we have to identify who we really are. Check out this message.  Happy Tuesday!

Tuesday October 28th, 2014: Rest In You

Devotions

“You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.” Saint Augustine

This is one of my favorite quotes. God made us to long for Him. He created us with a hole on our heart that only He could fulfill. Have you ever wondered why that guy never made you completely happy or why those material things didn’t bring you the lasting joy you thought it would. That’s because we keep trying to shove iPhones, friendships, food, or twitter popularity in a hole only God can fill. He is the only one who can fill the hole completely. Those other things may seem like they can fit in the hole but after a while you realize you’re still unhappy and unfulfilled.

“He has made everything appropriate in its time. He has also set eternity in their heart, yet so that man will not find out the work which God has done from the beginning even to the end.” Ecclesiastes 3:11 NASB

So how you do find true rest, happiness, and completeness? God. He is the only thing that can give you the rest you’re looking for. Let Him have your relationships. You can’t work them out on your own. Give Him your future. It’s His plan anyway. Give Him your worries. He’s got you. Rest in Him because you will not find rest until you do.

Just let it go. Give it to Him. He didn’t create you to do this on your own. He’s here for you. So what are you going to hand over today?

“Accept the way God does things, for who can straighten what he has made crooked?” Ecclesiastes 7:13 NLT

Tuesday October 21st, 2014: I Need Some Faith

Devotional

Happy Tuesday! I’m sharing something that I have to pray OFTEN. Have a great Tuesday.

“What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.” Mark 9:23 NLT

Lord… I need some faith. It’s hard to live in such a dark world. There’s disease, pain, and hurting people all around me. I see people everyday claim to love you yet live completely different lifestyles. I don’t know if I can do this anymore. I need you. I need faith in you. You are the only one who can save me from the disease, pain, and hurt…

Lord I pray that you would reach down to me today and give me faith… Faith that you are in control and I am not. Faith that you can do miracles. Faith that helps me love the unlovable.

“We give thanks to God always for all of you, constantly mentioning you in our prayers, remembering before our God and Father your work of faith and labor of love and steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Thessalonians 1:2-3

Thursday October 16th, 2014: Keep On

Devotions

There are some days I just want to give up. I just want to wave a little white flag and surrender to life. I just want to lay in bed all day, watch Netflix and never worry about anything. Then God reminds me… Hannah, you have a purpose for your life!

“So don’t get tired of doing what is good. Don’t get discouraged and give up, for we will reap a harvest of blessing at the appropriate time.” Galatians 6:9 NLT

Maybe you’re being bullied at school or feeling captured by the sin in your life… Keep On! God has a plan for you. In fact He will give you the strength to keep on!

“Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.” James 1:12 ESV

No one likes to suffer. No one likes to be bullied but we can hold on to the promise that after suffering and enduring we receive hope… Hope because Jesus has a plan for our lives. Suffering for a short time only to restore, support, and strengthen you.

“In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.” 1 Peter 5:10 NLT

“More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” Romans 5:3-5 ESV

So if you needing strength today… Simply ask God for strength. Tell Him you can’t do this on your own and you need His help. Have a blessed Thursday!

“For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.” Hebrews 10:36 ESV

Tuesday October 14th, 2014: Be Lifted High

Devotions

I was listening to the song “Came To My Rescue” by Hillsong the other day and after singing this song too many times to count, a part of the song became real… It was like I’d never heard the song before.

“In my life be lifted high

In our world be lifted high

In our love be lifted high”

Over the week I really began to think about this. Is He being lifted high in my life? World? Love? I became very convicted. So here’s a few things I thought about.

“In my life be lifted high”

Is He being glorifed in every aspect of your life? What does your day look like? How much time do you spend on twitter, Instagram, Worrying? How much time do you spend praying, reading the Word, trusting God? Do your actions reflect Jesus? Do you say you’re a Christian, even have a Bible verse in your Insta bio but cuss, go to parties, wear that dress that’s WAY too short, defile your body, or even have a sexual relationship with your boyfriend? See those things don’t bring glory to God… We are not means ever going to be perfect BUT friends we MUST try to be like Jesus and we all know Jesus wouldn’t be doing ANY of that!

“And whatever you do or say, let it be as a representative of the Lord Jesus, all the while giving thanks through him to God the father.” Colossians 3:17 NLT

“In our world be lifted high”

We live in a God-less world. You don’t have to look far to see sin in the world… But as Christians that’s sometimes where we stop. We see the bad and don’t do anything about it. We don’t try to set a higher standard. We don’t try to fight what society is telling us is “normal.” We sit back and complain about the state we’re in. Since when did that solve anything? One of the most frustrating things is when someone complains about something but they aren’t willing to take any actions to make a change. We must be willing to act if we want to see change. Want to see a change in your friends? Be the change. Want to see a change in your school? Find people like-minded as you and be the change. Want to see change in your community? Be the change! Through God, we can make a difference in our world so He can be lifted high!

“In our love be lifted high”

Everything Jesus did was intentional. He was intentional because everything He did was to bring glory to the father. Jesus threw conventional love out the window. He calls us to love the unlovable, hurt, heartbroken, and messed up people. If you’re truly a Christ follower, is He being lifted high in your love? Are you loving those people? I mean I understand that there’s that guy in your class that drives you up the wall… I get it, but you drive someone up the wall. Jesus loves you as much as he loves crazy guy. I mean love was so central to Jesus’ life that he said that loving God was your first priority and your second was to love your neighbor as your self (Matthew 22:36-40). May the way your love towards others point them to Christ.

“And may the Lord make your love grow an overflow to each other and to everyone else, just as our love overflows toward you. As a result, Christ will make your hearts strong, blameless, and holy when you stand before God our Father on that day with all those who belong to him.” 1 Thessalonians 3:12-13 NLT

I pray that Jesus is lifted high in your life, world, and love today. Happy Tuesday!

Friday October 10th, 2014: Epic by John Eldredge

Favorite Fridays

Happy Friday! I have Monday off from school so I’m excited to get an extra long weekend. 🙂 Todays post is about a really awesome book I read a few weeks ago. Epic by John Eldredge is a mini book. The book is, “The story God is telling and the role that is yours to play.” Epic answers some of life’s biggest questions… What is my role on earth? Who is God? What does He mean to me?
