Tuesday October 7th, 2014: Blessing To Be A Blessing

Devotions

I go to a very compassion driven church. We are constantly serving in some sort of way. Whether its single moms, abused foster kids, or orphans in India, we’re serving someone! Because of this culture, serving has become a huge part of my life. I want those who are in difficult times to know that Jesus loves them and He hasn’t forsaken them.

I have a heart for the homeless. I think that so many of them lose hope (because of their living condition) and this couldn’t be more saddening. Jesus never ever gives up on these people, but so many of them don’t realize this.

Over the weekend I went with a group of kids from my youth group to Downtown Dallas to serve the homeless with some hygiene and food items. We had all the items in backpacks and as we walked around we gave away the backpacks. We had the opportunity to pray with a lot of them too. It’s really interesting to talk to the homeless because you find out you actually have a lot in common with them.

I had the privilege of meeting a sweet man named Larry. Larry looked like a normal dude. He had on very normal clothes. Normal haircut. As I was talking to Larry he began to tell me his story. He was from California and had been a drug dealer for 19 years. He had gone to jail, which forced him to get sober, and found the Lord. Once Larry was released he came to Dallas to start somewhere new. He has only been living in Dallas for 2 weeks and currently lives in a shelter but is in search for a permanent living situation.

By the end of our conversation I realized that his story is much like mine. We’re both sinners in need of Jesus! Even though I’ve never sold drugs or served jail time, we are so much alike.

My point in sharing this with you is to share how important serving is. We get caught up in one point of view of life and forget that not everyone grew up in church like us, or go to Christian schoo,l or have iPhones. When you serve, you become humbled. You learn that you aren’t better than the drug addict on the streets. You have sin in your life too! If you don’t currently serve, find a way to serve someone! Maybe you can get a group of friends together and hand out free water at the mall or offer prayer to people waiting in hospital waiting areas. Maybe it’s serving your mom or dad by putting your dishes into the dishwasher. Don’t get overwhelmed feeling like you have to do this huge service project. Start small and see where God takes you from there.

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a refreshing weekend. I spent Saturday morning serving some of the homeless in Downtown Dallas… It’s truly a blessing to be a blessing. I’ll be elaborating on this topic tomorrow so stay tuned. 🙂

Today I’m wearing this super cute shirt my mom picked up from TJ Maxx. If you read my blog often you know I get a lot of my clothes at TJ Maxx! They recently put a new one by my house… I’ve already gotten myself into some trouble there. 🙂 My mom actually bought this shirt for herself but since we share clothes… 🙂 I really like the pink and black combo. It’s feminine and edgy. This shirt paired with some black jeans and black booties… So easy!

Thursday October 2nd, 2014: 1 Corinthians 10:21

Uncategorized

“You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord’s table and the table of demons.” 1 Corinthians 10:21 NIV

Ouch.

This is so hard… Sometimes, as Christians, we want to live with one foot in the world and one foot in heaven. We don’t want to give up our fleshy desires and sit at the table with the Lord, but it doesn’t work like that. We can’t live a double life.

We can’t live like this because if we are true Christ followers, then our lives should be truly transformed…

“Therefore from now on we recognize no one according to the flesh; even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him in this way no longer. Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” 1 Corinthians 5:16-17

So if we are truly His, then we should live transformed lives. We shouldn’t be drinking from the cup of demons. What this basically means is that you can’t be doing the same stuff non-Christians are doing. You shouldn’t let unwholesome mouth come out of your mouth (Ephesians 4:29). You shouldn’t be going to parties. You shouldn’t be lying. You shouldn’t be sending that guy inappropriate texts.

We cant live like this also because it doesn’t help our ministry…

Here’s what I mean. Everything you do should be to glorify God. Your life should point others to Him. I mean that’s the purpose of a Christian. So if you call yourself a Christian but you’re still drinking from the same cup and eating at the same table with the demons how is that pointing non-believers to Christ? I mean aren’t Christians supposed to live lives set apart (Romans 12:2)? If we are truly living lives set apart then we should be drinking solely from the Lord’s cup and eating at His table.

This is such a hard topic. It’s something I struggle with constantly. It takes work. So today think about whom you belong to. If you are truly a Christ follower, does your life produce the fruit? What can you do to change that if not?

Have a blessed Thursday!

Fashion

I cannot believe it is already October! Well we are finally getting some cooler weather. The only problem is that in the morning it’s cool but by the afternoon it’s hot… So I have to wear pieces that are versatile. This jacket is one of my favorites! It’s chiffon so it’s breathable. It’s perfect for Texas fall weather!

Tuesday September 30th, 2014: But Christ

Devotions

I hope everyone is having a great Tuesday! I’ve realized something revolutionary recently… God is too good to me. I don’t deserve this life. I don’t deserve to be blessed with the friends I have. I don’t deserve my supportive family. I don’t deserve my amazing church family. I don’t deserve my school.

But Christ.

I am a sinner. I fall short daily… Hourly… Sometimes by the minute.

 But Christ.

Because of Christ I am richly blessed. Because of Christ, and His love for me, I gained eternity. This has nothing to do with my good works. It is all about Christ.

“A faithful person will be richly blessed, but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished.” Proverbs 28:20 NIV

Now don’t get me wrong… There are some days where I don’t think that God can do anything with my mess of a life. But…

“Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.” Ephesians 3:20 NLT

God is about to provide anything you need. He is going to provide blessing to you in such a way so that you will even have some left over to share!

“And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.” 2 Corinthians 9:8 NLT

So today recognize the blessings in your life. Then think about how you can bless others with your blessings.

Friday September 26th, 2014: Rediscovering the Art of Lost Friendships

Favorite Fridays

Happy Friday! I am so excited for this weekend! Tomorrow is my homecoming dance and I’m so excited. Keep up with me over the weekend on Instagram to see my dress. 🙂 Today I am sharing a sermon I heard a few weeks ago. Kirby, youth pastor, is doing a sermon series about friendships right now and it’s really hitting home. When I heard this sermon I immediately thought about sharing it here. This podcast is the intro to the series but it also defines what a true friend is. I hope you enjoy this sermon as much as I did! Also check out the other sermons in the series on the podcast channel.

Thanks for reading.

Thursday September 25th, 2014: Love Others… Really Love Them. Romans 12:9-11

Devotions

“Don’t just pretend that you love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Stand on the side of the good. Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. Never be lazy in your work, but serve the Lord enthusiastically.” Romans 12:9-11 NLT

This is a hard one… Love others. Like really love them. Love them even though you may have different opinions. Love them even though you may not agree with how they are living their life. Love them through it ALL. Hate what is wrong… Yes hate it and do not take part in it but continue to love people even if you hate that they are doing wrong. Take delight in honoring each other. What does that even mean? Delight means to take pleasure in. So make it your pleasure to honor each other. This could be like complimenting someone’s shoes or maybe how they include someone. Never be lazy because we are to serve the Lord in everything we do!

Try loving someone who is usually hard to love. Honor your friends. Serve the Lord enthusiastically. It’s your call!

Happy Thursday!

Happy Wednesday! This dress is so fun! I love the fact that it is long enough AND modest up top! Not only is it modest, BUT it’s cute! The pattern is funky and colors are bold. I love all of this dress. It’s still hot in Texas so I’ll use it as an excuse to wear some dresses and sandals… 🙂
